No woman has kept up with the pace of fashion like Barbie. She is always perfectly dressed for any occasion: a night on the town, going to work, a first date or going to the beach. Each of her outfits are perfectly accessorized with shoes, purses, sunglasses and jewelry etc. Adrienne Butzer’s photographs are a tribute to the brilliant work of David Levinthal’s Polaroid portraits of Millicent Robert’s Barbies. Butzer captures the essential Barbie, as she was meant to look. Millions of young women have seen in Barbie the embodiment of there dreams and glamour. Butzer brings it back into the realm of reality.

While he slept they came to life (or so he fervently believed) and had many adventures deep into the night. Epic tales of lost droids and conquered dollhouses raged until the morning. But, like many things, his plastic idols were slowly forgotten. Now that the little boy is all grown up. Seth Leamer’s paintings imagine the life his childhood heroes are leading now.
